The Challenges

Restoration of a vast park with many and varied historic features, on a steeply sloping wooded setting returned it to coherence and refreshed the parkland setting. The approach adopted for the restoration of this landscape is spare and classical, skilfully adopting a “less is more” philosophy in delivering a large and complex scheme, with each individual project standing on its own merits, but ever more impressive in concert with its neighbour.

Solutions

The project was to develop a masterplan and detailed conservation and restoration proposals for five linked parks within the Ouseburn Valley. Although popular, the parks had lacked investment and were in decline. The Council’s vision was to renovate the parks as a focus for public participation, promoting social cohesion and healthy living whilst creating an education, conservation and heritage resource.
